Christian Carey (b. 1973) is a composer, performer, writer, and musicologist specializing in music theory, Post-1945, and American music. He is an Associate Professor of Music at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey, and serves on the Board of Directors of League of Composers/ISCM. He received a Ph.D. in Music from Rutgers University and degrees in Composition from Boston University and Voice Performance from the Juilliard School.

The American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), New York New Music Ensemble, Atlantic Chamber Orchestra, Cassatt String Quartet, C4 Choral Ensemble, East Coast Contemporary Ensemble, Harvard Choral Fellows, Locrian Chamber Players, Righteous Girls, Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, loadbang, Manhattan Choral Ensemble, organist Joseph Arndt, cellist Jay Campbell, organist Carson Cooman, guitarist Mak Grgic, pianist Hubert Ho, mezzo-soprano Megan Ihnen, percussionist Peter Jarvis, pianist Ashlee Mack, flutist John McMurtery, soprano Sara Noble, singing cellist Jody Redhage, singing violist Wendy Richman, pianist Nadia Shpachenko, and many others have performed his compositions at venues such as Joe’s Pub, June in Buffalo, Music X, the Aspen Music Festival, New Music Gathering, Serial Underground at Cornelia Street Cafe, Tenri Cultural Institute, American Viola Society Festival at Oberlin College, Eagle Rock Music Festival in Los Angeles, California, Sacramento State University’s Festival of New American Music, Tulane University’s Nienteforte Festival, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Riverside Church, Grace Church in Newark, Trinity Wall Street Church, and Princeton Chapel.

Publications: Perspectives of New Music, Intégral, Tempo, Musical America, Musicworks, Signal to Noise, and The Grove Dictionary of American Music and Musicians. His flute/piano duo “For Milton,” appeared on a CD commemorating Milton Babbitt that was released in 2012 by Perspectives of New Music/Open Space. Editions Delatour published his essay on Elliott Carter’s late concerti in Homage á Elliott Carter, a book published in 2013 devoted to Carter. He has also written extensively about classical, jazz, and popular music for various websites and magazines.     I very much enjoyed your ‘Chanson Variations’, which I heard in a performance n Youtube played by Carson Cooman. I’d love to but a score, but I don’t see it listed in your catalog. Did I miss it somewhere?
